Joseph Priestley: a celebration of his life and legacy

Read an extract of Life and Legacy

On the evening of March 13th 2003 a small group of well-wishers met in the Old Hall, Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, Joseph Priestley’s boyhood home. The topic of discussion was how we might celebrate the bicentenary of the life and legacy of Priestley (Born 13th March 1733 in Birstall; died 6th February 1804 Northumberland Pennsylvania USA) It was resolved that the forthcoming 2004 Bicentennial would not pass unheralded, at least in West Yorkshire. This Bicentennial Commemorative Collection represents the culmination of those early deliberations, three years on, and summarises in a single Volume, the recorded contributions of many Priestley scholars, exhibitors and distinguished lecturers from the UK and North America.

This is a book of approximately 284 pages with over 200 images, many in colour. It covers all the bicentennial year celebrations. It contains lectures, illustrations and articles regarding Priestley's contribution to science, politics, education and religion and is a brilliant way to learn more about Joseph Priestley, and celebrate his legacy.

If you are interested in ordering 'Joseph Priestley: Life and Legacy' it costs £20 (+£4 postage UK) or $36 (+$16 postage US). For more information please contact us. To buy the book please send a cheque made to The Joseph Priestley Society with contact details to:
